The J. Ardis Bell Library, TCC NE Student Activities, and TCC NE Career Services are jointly sponsoring an event on April 5, 2016. “STEM Your World” will involve a free luncheon in Center Corner from 12:30-1:30 and a maker activity in the NE library from 2-4:00 that day. All students, faculty, and staff are invited.
The “STEM Your World” luncheon will feature a panel of four speakers working in the STEM fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Attendees will learn about paths to STEM careers from current professionals. The panel will include Donna Darner, global regulatory intelligence director for eye-care giant Alcon; Steve Lotspeich, simulation product manager for Camber Corporation, which specializes in security and intelligence, engineering and technical support and cyber and information technology, among other areas; Jordan Gill, digital business integration analyst for Accenture, which helps companies around the world improve productivity; and Raymond Benge, associate professor of physics at Northeast Campus. The speakers will be available for a question and answer session following their remarks.
A hands-on maker activity featuring a make and take technology wearable called “Blinky Bling” will take place from 2-4:00 in the NE library. Cheryl Potemkin, owner and executive director of Fort Worth’s Pollen Path Design, will explain simple circuits and guide the activity.
For the entire month of April, the library will also feature a display of artifacts celebrating famous inventions and inventors as well as a coordinating digital display. Books on various STEM topics and careers will be available for checkout and handouts highlighting careers will be available to pick up.
Come help us celebrate and STEM Your World in April!
