In 2007, the American Council on Education released a detailed report on older adults and higher education. Another report followed in 2008. Though now a bit dated, these reports highlighted the growing senior population and their educational needs. At that time, half of all college attending older adults were enrolled in community colleges. Fast forward to 2015 and TCC is one of 100 community colleges committed to serving senior students as part of the Plus 50 Initiative sponsored by American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). The college also partners with the AARP Foundation. To learn more about these programs, visit http://www.tccd.edu/Continuing_Education/Plus_50/About_Plus_50.html.
The library is demonstrating our commitment by making sure our collection reflects this unique demographic in the college community. On the lower level of the library is a book display showcasing a sampling of titles geared toward older adults. Interested in finding more titles? Please inquire at the reference desk located on the upper level of the library. Also feel free to make a book suggestion. Happy Reading!
