The Computer Learning Center, located on the lower floor of the library, is a resource unique to the Northeast Campus. Open to both students and the community, the Computer Learning Center has 40 desktop computers loaded with useful software and a helpful staff eager to assist our patrons in its use.
The CLC provides a variety of services. For students the CLC provides instruction in MS Office, including the preparation of PowerPoint presentations. Students will also find assistance with “Turnitin,” and the navigation of Blackboard. Laptops are available for checkout for use within the library. In addition to this, two scanners are provided for scanning photos and documents. The CLC also assists biology and physical education students with their Diet Analysis assignments. The CLC staff endeavors to help students and patrons in any possible way.
TCC faculty will be pleased to discover that the Computer Learning center provides checkout and monitor of extra credit videos for any department wishing to use this service. The CLC can also generate surveys and tally results with Class Climate.
This past year has seen significant additions and upgrades to the CLC’s hardware, software and personnel. We have gained a dozen new computers, 9 Dell Optiplex 7010s and two IMacs. In addition to this “Insight” classroom management software has been installed, giving us the emergency management capability of sending a message to all or selected workstations. The Computer Learning Center now has Microsoft Office 2013 available for our patrons, although 2010 remains our default Office version, since most assignments are delivered in that form. The most exciting addition to our catalogue of software is Adobe Creative Suite 6, which contains the powerhouse programs Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. The CLC is in the process of updating Project Clea physics and astronomy exercises to the latest available version.
With the arrival of Megan Lambert this past April, the CLC is now fully staffed. Megan brings a degree in technical writing and an outstanding history of customer service to the fold.
We hope that all NE faculty members will encourage their students to take advantage of the resources and services offered in the CLC. We will do our utmost to assist your students in “Achieving the Dream.”
